Aims

 What are arts therapies? 

Arts therapies are newer, predominantly nonverbal methods of psychotherapy, which are aligned mainly action-activating, conflict-focusing and solving as well as sense-promoting. 

With mental, psychological and physical disorders,  artistic therapies contribute among other things to the emotional open-mindedness of the patients;  internal resistance can be dissolved, tensions and aggressions can be processed and pain be diminished.  The patient is led to new perspectives of human activities, to creativity and to a more satisfying experience of his or her skills

Arts therapies are suitable thus for the existence accomplishment, experience intensification, diagnostics and for the positive influence of  behavior, emotional experiencing and thinking. 

Arts therapies are indicated in psychiatric illnesses, in particular with the predominantly psychotherapeutic treatable disorders such as neuroses, personality disorders, addiction and in the gerontopsychiatry, onkology, chronic pain therapy, rehabiltation. In addition, Arts Therapies showed good results in welfare and special-educational and other schools as well as in pedagogical fields outside school. 

Which goals and intentions does  BKMT pursue? 

*  As since 1986 non-profit recognized association places itself the BKMT the task, art, music and dance therapy as well as other artistic therapies in research to promote teachings and practice. 

*  BKMT wants to be a forum for the discussion and change for the persons, who work or are interested in art, music and dance therapy as well as within the range of other artistic therapies, and in the sense of the co-ordination and cross-linking their union make possible. 

 *  BKMT aims at a spreading of art, music and dance therapy as well as other artistic therapies in the health service. 

*  By the mechanism of a consultant place BKMT promotes scientific work in the area of the art as an only scientific society for artistic therapies, music and dance therapy as well as other artistic therapies.  The price-worthiest work to this range from medicine, psychology, educating sciences, art, music and dance science as well as neighbouring disciplines are distinguished and their publications are promoted.  In this way innovative beginnings are spread. 

 Which concrete activities does  BKMT offer? 

For the reaching of the goals of the federation the following means serve: 

 *  Publication and spreading of work from science and practice in the publication organ of the federation "music, dance and art therapy - magazine for artistic therapies in education, social and health service" (Hogrefe, Goettingen) MTK

*  Protection of interests of members and within the health range as well as in school and except-school mechanisms. 

*  Co-operation with persons and organizations of similar interests particularly in Europe. 

*  Execution and organization of information and advanced training seminars, symposiums etc. and exchange in Europe. 

 *  Referring particularly to meetings, basic and advanced training of institutions, associations and out and training further places, which belong to BKMT. 

*  Promotion of the work of societies, whose members keep the privileges granted to a large extent from BKMT members.  Which advantages does the membership in BKMT offer?  The training and occupation-accompanying away and further training in artistic therapies, at present particularly in art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy and in combined music and dance therapy, take place on high level.  Despite free choice and organization of topics and contents by the institutes for member to a minimum of common scientific, artistic and therapeutic standards and to the adherence to ethical standards importance is attached.

* Members receive advice from experts and economical supervision.
